This hire aims to strengthen our Mathematics Education program, solidifying our position as Virginia’s leading mathematics department in this field. We will be better positioned for growth in grant funding for the important work that we are known for nationally regarding state public professional development programs, as well as for new initiatives.
Maintain a vigorous research program and a record of excellent teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
A Ph.D. or equivalent in Mathematics Education, or related field, and a Masters (or equivalent amount of coursework) in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, are required at the time of the appointment. Preference will be given to applicants with at least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience, a clearly identified research agenda, and expertise in mathematics teaching and learning at the elementary or secondary level as well as a proven track record of external funding or the potential for such or interest in collaborating on currently funded mathematics education projects. Applicants also must have a record of successful teaching, as well as experience with working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or the commitment to do so.
