Supervise and perform administrative, research and technical duties of the laboratory; ensure that the laboratory has adequate supplies, properly maintained equipment and adequate staff; schedule work to meet experimental and publication deadlines, either directly or in conjunction with PI; communicate laboratory policies; evaluate instrument and experimental quality assurance

Perform administrative duties:
Supervise the production of routine to complex work of the laboratory;
Perform test experiment procedures relating to laboratory activities.
Ensure financial resources are utilized effectively
Indirect budgetary responsibility depending on laboratory, may prepare the budget for approval by administration and monitor expenditures against the budget.
Anticipate the laboratory needs and order supplies;
Ensure a safe, satisfying and enriching environment for employees
Supervise technical staff, technologists, students and laboratory activities;
Coordinate, assign and review work of others as it relates to laboratory activity;
Maintain personnel records and/or time sheets;
Monitor payroll reports for overtime, sick time and vacation usage
Assure the development of people through orientation and training programs and through work experiences
Conduct performance reviews where applicable and ensure all other performance reviews are conducted in a timely manner
Counsel employees with regard to disciplinary actions taken in response to violations of institutional policies or contractual provisions;
Conduct or originate staff meetings to develop resolutions to problems;
Evaluate quality assurance standards, programs and procedures within the unit/laboratory
Ensure effective instrument/equipment use and quality control of laboratory;
Ensure accuracy and reliability of tests/experiments.
Assist in Research and Development:
Develop new and modify existing methodology/protocols.
Perform, interpret and evaluate research
Assemble and compile research data for presentation and/or publication
Assist in collaborative efforts with other institutions and/or industry
Serve as resource to others concerning technical problems/procedures
Consult with students, faculty, fellows, technicians technologists, physicians and/or clinicians about unusual and/or difficult technical problems;
Assist in performing and interpreting technical studies;
Serve as consultant on technical problems.
Instruct departmental personnel and laboratory users on technical procedures;
May prepare and present lectures or laboratory exercises; and coordinate guest lecturers;
May evaluate and test students.
This position will provide scientific administrative and technical laboratory-based oversite, a small but multifaceted research program focusing on reproductive medicine, physiology, pathology and toxicology. The laboratory manager will report to the director and be expected to broadly support the multiple extramurally supported research projects currently in progress as well as work with center faculty on research grant development. Within the research projects currently in progress, this individual will also help in the supervision and training of clinical fellow, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, medical students and undergraduates. This individual will also work with the existing research staff to maintain the technical procedures and general function and maintenance of the research laboratory sections. The laboratory manager will also be expected to work with the center director and independently to develop new projects as well as facilitate the success of interactive projects between all members of the group. Administrative duties will include assisting the center director with requests from outside collaborators, submission of manuscripts/abstracts, preparation of PowerPoint presentations, preparing and submitting animal protocols, orienting new lab members, interfacing with VEHS to manage chemical and radioactive waste, interacting with Medical Center and University groups/other labs when appropriate to represent the laboratory, overseeing purchase and maintenance of laboratory equipment and ordering supplies. The laboratory manager will also be responsible for overseeing laboratory/program functions when the director is unavailable.

Experience in maintaining a large mouse colony is essential.
Demonstrated competency with obtaining IRB approved human tissues and culturing of primary cells.
