Duties and responsibilities: This position directs the Office of Human Resources at USG. He/she serves as the primary Human Resource contact providing advice and counsel for human resources policies and administration for staff at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). This position provides a leadership role in advising the Executive Director and his team on areas related to all aspects of the Human Resources function. USG recently completed a compensation study with Sibson Consulting and is in process of implementing its recommendations. A continuation of this work will begin this summer to review and enhance USG HR policies, compensation philosophy and communications. This redesign effort will include the development of a Talent Management program. Additional staffing is expected to be hired to implement the redesign effort.
USG currently supports 100 employees (and over 100 student employees) across 4 distinct administrative divisions and 14 service centers. With the opening of a new education facility in two years, the Biomedical Sciences and Engineering Education Building, USG will expand enrollments from its current 4,000 to over 7,500 students. As enrollments and programs grow, USG will increase staffing to cover expanded services, administrative and institutional functions (advancement, educational program development, and other entrepreneurial initiatives). Planning for growth is underway and new key leadership positions are being hired. The HR Manager will play a pivotal role in supporting USG's growth and planning. The HR Manager will be integrally involved in the planned redesign of the HR office with enhanced consultative services to management and staff and greater emphasis on talent management and organizational development priorities.
This role serves as a liaison between USG and UMCP in all HR areas including but not limited to recruitment and selection, benefits, compensation and classification, payroll, performance management, professional and staff development, training, organization design and employee relations. This position oversees the daily functions of the Human Resources office office.
Minimum Qualifications: Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration or other related field required.
8-10 years of experience in Human Resources function required, to include 2 years at the supervisory level.
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
Master's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration strongly preferred.
SHRM certification preferred. Higher education setting and supervisory experience preferred. Experience in multiple disciplines of Human Resources and/or as an HR Generalist or Business Partner highly desirable. Excel, financial systems (KFS/BPM or other), HRIS systems (eTerp/PHR or other), database systems (Access/Hyperion/Brioquery/WOW or other systems). Presentation skills and use of Powerpoint or Prezi desirable.
