Full Time; Career Starting Salary Range: $46,500 - $51,500/Annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

UCSC received a $5.9 million grant for a five-year period between 2016 and 2021. Grant funds - from the U.S. Department of Education's Hispanic-Serving Institutions Division - are designed to assist the university with the SEMILLA project, designed to improve STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programming to increase success rates (persistence and completion) for Latina/o, low-income and high-need students. The project will serve as the catalyst for a comprehensive set of interventions that will address barriers both in and outside the classroom.
This position will work in two offices on campus, Learning Support Services and the Academic Excellence (ACE) Program. The Academic Excellence (ACE) Program is designed to increase the success of a diverse population of UCSC students in their pursuit of bachelor's degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). ACE is an academic achievement and retention program, which is administered through the Division of Physical and Biological Sciences at UCSC. Learning Support Services offers peer-led small group course specific tutoring, Modified Supplemental Instruction (MSI), writing tutoring, and drop-in services for all undergraduate students at UCSC. Programs are grounded in educational theory that supports the academic development of students through these peer-led services that address and minimize educational equity issues. LSS is in the division of Student Success.

Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) related field or equivalent experience / training.
Experienced knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural / linguistic issues in applying academic support to students.
Ability to prepare for and lead intensive, active learning problem solving sessions for students enrolled in selected UCSC biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics courses.
Ability to assist students in the development and maintenance of a variety of learning skills, which will contribute to their learning and subsequent performance in the biology, chemistry, mathematics, or physics coursework.
Experience and knowledge in training and supervising tutorial and student staff in a college setting and implementation of study skills and other academic support programs and the ability to design and conduct workshops and seminars to enhance student academic skills.
