UC International at the University of Cincinnati has three distinct offices that assist in facilitating opportunities for international education experiences and cultural exchanges to the UC Community and our global strategic partners around the world: International Programs, International Services, and International Planning. International Programs provides opportunities for more than 1700 students to study abroad annually and ranks 37th among U.S. universities in sending students to study abroad. International Services provides immigration assistance and welcoming services to over 4300 international students and scholars annually and ranks 5th worldwide as the most welcoming university according to the International Student Barometer. International Planning facilitates collaborations between our international partners and UC colleges/departments in order to provide our students and faculty outstanding experiences through exchange programs, collaborative research, and global engagement that strengthen international education and innovation.
UC International is looking for a Director of International Strategic Partnerships to serve a 3-5 year appointment and will report directly to the Vice Provost of UC International Affairs. UC International will be hiring one or more into the position(s).The position(s) will support the Vice Provost and the UC International Planning Office in carrying out its international objectives that include seeking out new strategic partnerships and strengthening existing ones. The position(s) will engage with our partners and strive to provide the best global engagement opportunities for our students, faculty, staff, and the larger UC Community.
Primary duties of the Director of International Strategic Partnerships
Responsible for initially leading and overseeing our 7 global strategy groups: Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Asia, China, India, and Northern Africa and the Middle East as needed
Identify universities of similar programmatic diversity and size to form new partnerships with UC
Work to develop broad and deep collaborative relationships with new international partners as well as strengthen existing ones
Collaborate with international partners to establish a wide range of educational and culturally diverse opportunities for additional study abroad and exchange programs to benefit UC students
Introduce faculty and our strategic partner institutions to each other to facilitate collaborations
Work extensively with academic units and faculty to encourage faculty to develop courses and curriculum with an international component in collaboration with our international strategic partners
Assist in facilitating faculty of UC colleges and departments that have an interest in engaging in international exchange programs with our network global partners
Prepare agreements and contracts that outline mutually agreed upon responsibilities and initiatives between UC and our international partners
Increase the UC brand in each of the identified strategy regions to further increase and diversify our international student population
Travel extensively to perform site visits and to establish and strengthen relationships with our international partner institutions
Execute all other duties as assigned by the Vice Provost for International Affairs
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Masters degree appropriate to the applicant’s academic field of expertise
Ability and willingness to travel extensively around the globe to establish and strengthen relationships with our international partners
Experience in developing international partnerships focusing on sustainable multi-disciplinary projects that engage faculty across disciplines and encourage faculty participation
Ability to enhance and diversify existing international partnerships across the institution
Strong commitment and tangible demonstrated experience in international education and the ability to work with all areas of UC International to support its mission and goals
Ability to successfully provide leadership and function effectively as a collaborative member of assigned regional strategy groups and within the Vice Provost of International Affairs’ senior leadership team
Excellent written, oral communication, and presentation skills necessary for networking and relationship building
Positive attitude and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion
Experience with projects and developing sustained relationships with international partners in two or more of our 7 global strategy group regions: Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, Asia, China, India, and Northern Africa and the Middle East
Proficiency in English and one or more of the following languages: Spanish, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, or any other languages spoken within our strategic regions.
Ideal Qualifications and Experience:
UC experience and knowledge of UC Colleges, departments, and programs preferred
Familiarity with UC policies and procedures, especially with contracts and agreements involving the Office of General Counsel
Experience and knowledge of best practices in international higher education
Proven successful administrative experience at the department, college, university, or in a relevant professional organization
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with the diverse UC and international communities
