In addition, the custodian cooperates with students, staff and faculty in moving furniture and equipment in laboratories, classrooms and auditoriums and assists in special activities such as athletic events, assemblies and graduation exercises. The custodian keeps custodial closets neat and organized, vacuum bags emptied, ensure equipment is clean and in good working condition and report any maintenance issues. The custodian will respond to specific work orders for special needs, to include cleaning and extraction of carpets and the moving of furniture and /or equipment.
The incumbent is responsible for working with a diverse population and workforce and being service oriented and fiscally responsible; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships; working effectively both independently and as part of a team; prioritizing and performing all work efficiently and effectively; providing strong customer service to students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors; scheduling time off to ensure the University's needs are met and appropriate coverage is addressed during personal time off.
In addition, the incumbent works on set-ups and other functions for campus graduation, including, but not limited to setting up chairs the day before graduation and wiping them down the morning of graduation.
Providing custodial support, including such activities as responding to work orders and campus emergencies, safeguarding areas from unauthorized use and access by locking and unlocking doors and windows; assisting in special events such as assemblies student move out/in and graduation exercises; and performing other duties as assigned.
Sonoma State University consists of over 2 million square feet of building space of various construction types and ages. The incumbent will be assigned to a variety of spaces on the campus and environment can be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, noisy and loud; and may require working on projects that entail long periods of standing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Incumbent will work in heavy student and staff population in an ever changing environment.
Normal work schedule may include graveyard, swing, or other variable shifts to meet operational needs and will be confirmed at time of offer. Overtime, evening, weekend, early mornings, holidays, and other non-standard times may be required and will be specified only by the appropriate administrator to meet operational needs. The incumbent must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by the Appropriate Administrator.
