The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine invites applications for a full time research faculty position to join a strong and productive research group focused on regenerative medicine. The main focus of our research is heart tissue regeneration using bone marrow based progenitor cells, skeletal myoblasts, induced pluripotent stem cells, and embryonic stem cells, amongst others. The ideal candidate will have an ongoing innovative research program in the field of cell-based therapy for regenerative medicine. Qualified applicants will have earned a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent degree, completed a productive postdoctoral training program, and have a significant and growing publication record in high impact journals. Active, transferable federal, foundation or comparable research support funding is an added advantage. In addition, the successful candidate should have expertise in whole cell and intact heart electrophysiology, hemodynamic analysis, tissue engineering, or gene-editing technology. Regenerative Medicine at the University of Cincinnati's Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine comprises a multidisciplinary group of academic investigators that include faculty, post-doctoral fellows, visiting scholars, and research assistants who share a research focus on cardiac regeneration and repair following myocardial infarction. Our laboratories explore progenitor/stem cell biology relevant to pluripotency, cell differentiation, proliferation, survival, gene therapy, and mechanisms of cellular reprogramming.
Our investigators use a variety of approaches and methods to effect cardiac repair, ranging from stem cell transplantation (bone marrow stem cells, myoblasts, embryonic cells, iPS cells, neonatal cardiomyocytes, and endothelial cells), combined stem cell/progenitor cell and gene therapy based approaches, cytokine/drug mediated mobilization of endogenous stem cells, exosomes as therapeutics, and induction of adult cardiomyocyte proliferation. In addition to training undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers, our faculty direct undergraduate and graduate courses on tissue and stem cell engineering at the University of Cincinnati.
Located in the Cardiovascular Center at the University of Cincinnati's medical school campus, we are well-equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health and the American Heart Association.
