The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is looking for an Industrial Hygienist II. This position will report to the Senior Industrial Hygienist and will support the University's mission and commitment to excellence and diversity in our students, faculty, staff and all our activities. Under general supervision from the Senior Industrial Hygienist, the Industrial Hygienist II will recognize, evaluate, and control environmental stresses or chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic factors that may impair the safety of students, faculty, and staff of the University.
This position will ensure that all functions of the University will have knowledge of University safety rules, and city, state, and federal regulations and standards pertaining to health and safety. Ensure that areas are making every effort to be in compliance with health and safety regulations and standards. Conducts Environmental sampling and monitoring based on evaluation of workplace hazards and makes recommendations for corrective action. Will utilize a variety of industrial hygiene monitoring, sampling and analytical equipment. Evaluate areas that have potential health hazards, determine samples to be tested and collect and submit samples to an appropriate laboratory for analysis. Review and analyze lab results of materials and initiate remedial action. Maintain effective relationship within the University system and with regulatory agencies. Position will share on-call responsibilities on a rotation schedule responding to emergencies involving potential hazardous materials, occupant complaints, etc. Will be able to prepare report of findings and submit recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree with three (3) years' experience; -OR- Associate's degree with five (5) years' experience; -OR- seven (7) years' experience. Degree must be in Industrial Hygiene, Physical Science or Chemistry. Experience must be in environmental health or related field.
