A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Eric S. Wohleb in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. Studies in the lab focus on the role of microglia in the neurobiology of affective disorders and therapeutic responses to antidepressant treatments. The candidate will have the opportunity to utilize multiple molecular and cellular techniques to understand how neuron-microglia interactions shape behavior and cognition. The lab uses several multi-disciplinary approaches to study neuron-microglia interactions, including neuronal modulation via chemogenetics, flow cytometry/cell sorting, cell type-specific RNA-Seq, neuropharmacology, viral-mediated gene manipulations, transgenic mice, and confocal imaging. The candidate will be provided with significant training in research areas with which he/she is less familiar, as well as mentoring to provide basis for an independent research career. This position is fully supported, however, the candidate will be encouraged to apply for postdoctoral fellowships and internal NIH-sponsored training grants.
Essential Qualifications: Ph.D in Neuroscience, Immunobiology, or related field. Research skills include standard molecular and cellular biology techniques as well as prior work with rodents. The candidate must be self-motivated and adept at designing and performing experiments. Strong critical thinking, problem solving, and attentiveness to detail required. They should also be able to communicate research results, as demonstrated by previous publications and presentations. The position requires the ability to lead projects and work cooperatively with others and carry out experiments as well as assist in grant writing and manuscript submission.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience in advanced molecular techniques (i.e., cloning and packaging of viral vectors) and flow cytometry and its applications is desired. A candidate with experience (or desire to train) in neurophysiology is preferred.
Applicants must complete and submit an official application at https://jobs.uc.edu and must include a CV. Additionally, upload a list of three references, and a one-page statement of research interests and career goals under the 'Additional Documents' section of requisition # 20163
