The Director of TRIO Student Support Services is responsible for providing leadership and oversight of the TRIO Student Support Services ESL program funded through the US Department of Education. The TRIO SSS ESL program at Hennepin Technical College provides opportunities for academic development, student assistance/ advising, and motivation for students to successfully complete postsecondary degrees and significantly contributes to the retention and completion goals of the institution. These programs serve 140 students from under-represented populations that include; low-income, first generation, ESL and students with disabilities.
Provide leadership and overall management of the SSS program.
Lead and supervise all services and activities provided to program participants.
Lead, supervise, schedule, direct and evaluate direct department personnel work performance.
Participate in professional development activities.
NOTE: Must be available to work evenings and weekends and able to travel between campuses and to off-site locations.
Master's degree in education, counseling or related field.
Three years of supervisory experience in student affairs and/or higher education.
Three years of experience developing and managing educational programs.
Experience with programs serving under-represented student populations including first generation, low-income, students of color, ESL and students with disabilities.
Familiarity with data collection, analysis and data-based decision making.
Ability to collaborate and establish a positive rapport with students, staff and the community-at-large to promote the goals TRIO SSS and HTC.
Training and/or experience in administering federally funded programs.
Training on issues of poverty, equity and access and how they impact education.
Previous experience supervising a TRIO program, preferably SSS.
Familiarity of Minnesota State System (formerly MnSCU) and HTC programs, policies, and procedures.
Experience in overcoming educational barriers similar to those faced by TRIO students.
