MnSCU Academic Professional 1 (Unclassified MAPE)
This position exists to provide learning services to college students, as defined by MnSCU and the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act. The primary responsibility will be to aid the NCTC Academic Success Center, faculty, and staff in the provision of accommodations as determined by legislation (ADA, Section 504, etc.). This position works as part of a team committed to the academic excellence of the college by providing instruction/advising to students needing supplemental assistance, working closely with faculty, contributing general office support, responding to service requests, proctoring exams for students, and representing the office within relevant campus and/or community groups.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS:
Work directly with students to identify and assess needs and develop a solution unique to each student to ensure a successful college experience.
Work closely with faculty and other staff to train on assistive and universal design that can be applied to courses so that all students have an opportunity to learn. This includes researching new universal designs, technology, solutions and testing so that NCTC is up to date with current means of learning for all students.
Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act, as Amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
Knowledge of principles of universal design for learning
Experience with Microsoft Suite and good computer skills required
Must have good organizational and communication skills
Experience with Adobe Acrobat, assistive technology software such as Kurzweil, Read & Write, Dragon, Sonocent, or Learning Ally
Bachelor of Science in Education, Psychology, Counseling or related field
2 years professional higher education experience and/or experience working with persons with disabilities
Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Experience with Desire2Learn (D2L) or similar online course platform
