The Tepper School of Business has animmediate opening for a SystemsAdministrator. This position is akey member of the Tepper Computing Group whose focus is supporting enhancingthe administrative, research, and educational computing used by students,faculty and staff within the business school.
Responsibilities of the SystemsAdministrator include management, security, and support of the network andserver infrastructure for our internal customers and educational and research programs. Technologies include front-end servers andclient workstations; Microsoft Windows (with a secondary focus on Linux); virtualizeddata center operations; network file systems and Microsoft Active Directory;scripting and automation of system administration tasks; and network and communicationsprotocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, wired and wireless Ethernet, VPN technologies). Use cases include administrative, research,and educational computing as well as distance learning.
Respond to and resolve incidents and problem reports related to servers, networks, and permissions.
Manage and maintain the appropriate security levels and access controls for all infrastructure servers and systems; perform security audits as directed.
Administer file, directory, and network file share permissions (user and identity management) for digital storage and shared file servers.
Provision new Microsoft Windows and Linux servers based on project needs and requests.
Administer virtual servers used by Tepper in the University's private VMware cloud as well as physical servers and storage devices in the University's data center.
Install and deploy packaged applications (3rd party) as well in-house software (developed by the Tepper application development team) to application servers in the production environment.
Monitor the server and storage infrastructure for service availability, service issues, network issues, and security incidents.
Manage, maintain and administer regular and emergency operating system update and security patching for all Tepper infrastructure servers.
Maintain and administer data backup and disaster recovery systems for the school.
Maintain and administer physical and virtual firewalls and VPN/RAS appliances related to Tepper networks, systems, and applications.
Manage network registrations and the IPv4/IPv6 network address space for all Tepper infrastructure systems.
Bachelor's Degree in computer science, information technology or equivalent combination of training and experience.
At least 2 years of Microsoft Windows Server (data center) and desktop administration in a heterogeneous environment.
Experienceprovisioning and administering virtual machines and virtualized storage inVMware ESX or other virtualization environments.
Demonstrated experience with TCP/IP network management, IP address provisioning, DNS, and DHCP; clear understanding of network switching, and routing.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory (AD) identity management and authentication; management of AD file services.
Demonstrated awareness of customer service fundamentals and good interpersonal skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
Ability to effectively troubleshoot issues in an IT environment; good problem-solving skills.
Preferred: Network firewall configuration and management experience.
Preferred: Experience with systems administration automation and scripting techniques (e.g., batch file syntax, PowerShell, WS-Management, WinRM, etc.)
Preferred: Microsoft Windows, Linux, or CompTIA A+ certifications.
Preferred: O/S and network security training or certifications.
Preferred: Demonstrated experience with SAML, Shibboleth, and single-sign on (SSO) technologies in an enterprise IT context.
Preferred: Experience configuring and administering web servers (IIS, Apache httpd, etc.) including the administration of SSL certificates.
Preferred: Cloud computing experience such managing virtualized servers in, and deploying applications to a public cloud environment such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
