Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (LAS) at Iowa State University is seeking an Administrative Specialist III to provide executive-level administrative support to the Department Chair as well as administrative oversight for the Department of World Languages and Cultures. Primary responsibilities include managing human resources, supervision of staff, the department budget, grant programs, and reporting functions.
Primary responsibilities of this position include collaborating with the college's human resources office to facilitate faculty and staff recruitment, performance management, administration of leave programs, and employee relations concerns. Additionally, this position will be responsible for managing the financial resources of the department with specific responsibilities related to budget planning and development, financial analysis and process, and compliance with general accounting procedures and policies. This position will manage departmental office operations including supervision, reporting requirements, and compliance.
The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational skills; effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; the ability to effectively exercise independent judgment; leadership abilities and willingness to take initiative; and an appreciation for diversity and inclusion that includes constituents from a variety of cultural and international backgrounds.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 6 years. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experience recruiting and hiring using an applicant tracking system;
Accounting and financial experience including the annual budgeting process;
Experience working in a college or university setting;
Experience in a supervisory role;
Experience working in a multicultural and diverse environment.
