Oishei Children’s Hospital to introduce the next generation of comprehensive pediatric care to the women and children of Western New York.
The Organization Kaleida Health, the largest healthcare provider in Western New York, serves more than one million patients annually through its comprehensive healthcare services at Buffalo General Medical Center, The Gates Vascular Institute, Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, DeGraff Memorial Hospital, VNA of Western NY and the nationally known Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. Kaleida Health supports the residency training programs for the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and trains more than 700 residents each year.
The Position The Senior Director, Women’s Services position includes the regional perinatal center, with 3,000 deliveries per year, a 14 suite Labor & Delivery unit with three OR’s and four recovery bays, a 14 bed Mother Baby Unit, a 24 bed GYN/antepartum unit with Mother/Baby overflow, a 64 bed Level III NICU and the transport team. In late 2017, a new replacement facility for Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo is opening and will be called the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital. The historic $270 million Oishei Children’s Hospital has 12 floors and 185 beds. The modern facility will allow the hospital to maintain its status as one of only 43 free-standing children’s hospitals in the nation – and the only one of its kind in New York State.
Kaleida Health is seeking a highly professional, experienced and contemporary Senior Director, Women’s Services to join the nursing leadership team at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo. The Senior Director will report to the Chief Nursing and Clinical Operations Officer and will provide nursing leadership for Women’s Services. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success managing women’s services and leading a highly skilled and patient focused team. The incumbent will be a catalyst in engaging staff to achieve the challenge for “best in class” care to patients, families and the Western New York Community.
As a member of the patient care team, the Senior Director will help shape the clinical practice model and the culture of Women’s Services across the System. The Senior Director will collaborate with the CNO/CCO to promote a culture of professional accountability and excellence of nursing practice. S/he will participate in the development and execution of the strategic goals for Women’s Services, and the implementation of programs, systems and processes to achieve the goals of Kaleida Health. The Senior Director will work collaboratively with five direct reports.
A registered nurse eligible for licensure in the State of NY with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree, one of which must be in Nursing.
Ten (10) years nursing experience in progressively responsible leadership roles and a minimum of five (5) years of nursing leadership experience in complex, high risk women’s service.
Experience as a highly visible and accessible leader, comfortable in the clinical setting with the ability to engage and empower others.
Contemporary leadership expertise, knowledge of emerging models of nursing care, and experience with initiatives for improving nursing practice, safety, quality and patient satisfaction/outcomes.
Experience in a union environment is required.
Demonstrated ability to establish strong collaborative relationships with physician leaders and with leaders of other disciplines is also required.
The incumbent will be a seasoned, confident nurse leader with strong managerial competencies and demonstrated ability to develop effective nursing leaders, to mentor and coach others, and to delegate appropriately to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
