FINANCIAL AID ADVISOR (Student Services Professional III)

Primary Duties: Under general direction, the Student Services Professional III performs complex Student Services professional work characterized by independent student advisement and guidance in individual and group settings. Using an integrated student service model, incumbent independently counsels and advises a widely diverse population on complex federal, state, and institutional financial and student-related matters. Advisors are responsible for the overall management and compliance of assigned programs.
Requires the equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques
The equivalent to three years of progressively responsible professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge, skills and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
A Masters degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Throughout employment in this position incumbent must maintain a valid California Drivers License as well as continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Drivers Training course.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of current CSU employees who apply for the position. This is considered a sensitive position. This position is considered a sensitive position based on CSU guidelines. Incumbent is responsible for the safety and security of Level 1 data, sometimes also referred to as Level 1 protected data. PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: Incumbent will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Incumbent will primarily perform professional office work involving computers and consultations with students, staff, etc. May frequently sit, move, stand or work at a computer terminal for long periods of time. Some work will require walk/travel across campus to other offices or building on and off campus. May need to work occasional weekends and evenings to complete projects or participate in events. Is required to make presentations to groups and individuals.
WORKENVIRONMENT: This position involves frequent to constant interaction with students, parents, guests, faculty and staff. The office is a typical office environment with standard office equipment. This is a fast-paced environment requiring a flexible schedule. Early morning, evening or weekend hours may be required, to travel and complete work, projects or reports. May occasionally work outside; locations may include even and uneven walking surfaces and exposure to weather changes such as temperatures, humidity or precipitation.
