The Associate Director of the Learning /Access Center supervises the peer mentoring tutoring program, assisting students at risk to promote student success and retention; coordinates with the Writing Tutorial Center and academic departments to identify and promote campus-wide available academic support for students; trains, supervises, and evaluates professional subject tutors and peer mentor tutors, current best-practice models and techniques; meets with students individually to assess learning and training needs; liaises with professors and academic advisors. The Associate Director Is a vital proactive and collaborative team member of the Learning /Access Center staff. This position will utilize a socially conscious leadership development model to provide academic support for all students while targeting at-risk populations; applicants should be adept at promoting a positive environment for diversity and inclusion.
Hire, train and oversee peer/mentors tutors and professional academic tutors.
Provide individual academic counseling/coaching for students experiencing academic difficulty.
Maintain and track student visits.
Participate in professional and campus activities and research related to academic support and learning strategies.
Manage Retention Alerts for special cohorts identified at risk academically.
Provide assistance with testing and assessment activities, including making appointments, checking and responding to inquiries, proctoring tests, data entry.
Manage a fluid case load of students and conduct outreach with identified students.
Create and disseminate academic support schedule.
Serve on relevant University committees.
Assist in University retention efforts.
Work some evenings and weekends.
Education: Master's degree in Higher Education, Education, Student Affairs/College Student Personnel, educational psychology, counseling, social work, or related field.
Three to five years of direct experience working with college student populations.
One to two years supervisory experience, preferably in Academic Support Services.
Preference will be given to candidates with documented experience working with students with disabilities, English Language Learnings, diverse and at-risk populations.
Skills: Strong communication skills to effectively communicate information to multiple audiences (i.e. students, faculty, parents, and other helping professionals). Integrate diversity and related principles into all aspects of staff engagement, as appropriate, and foster development of positive environment for diversity and inclusion.
