The Office of Accessibility Services at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Full Time Accessibility Specialist in Beckley, WV. This position is responsible for meeting individually with students to review their documentation and to discuss needs. Specialists authorize appropriate accommodations and instruct students on how to implement those accommodations in their classes at WVU.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Interact with students, parents, various professionals, and other stakeholders to educate and inform them of the services available through the Office of Accessibility Services at West Virginia University, as well as the policies and procedures to access these services.
Review and analyze documentation (medical, psychological, etc.) submitted in support of a student's request for a disability related accommodation to determine eligibility for services within OAS's policies and procedures.
Determine required accommodations by triangulating information from written documentation, student, parents, various professionals, and other stakeholders.
Consult with student, administration, faculty, and staff as needed in relation to the implementation of disability related accommodations.
Accurately and punctually record case notes and pertinent data with the SAMM database about each interaction related to the student services, the provision of accommodations, and related communication.
Participate and contribute to planning, coordinating, and authorizing accommodations, activities, and services with other OAS staff to assure consistency of information and services.
Review, evaluate, and consult on architectural and programmatic accommodation issues.
Assist in program development and training activities.
Safeguard confidentiality of student records.
Adhere to all established rules, regulations laws and appropriate ethical standards.
Complete other relevant tasks assigned by the Director of Accessibility Services
