Job location is at Research Lab in Davis. The Laboratory Assistant will assist in clinical, laboratory and administrative work. Screens electronic medical records to identify candidates for enrollment. Meets with patients in outpatient clinics or dialysis units in Davis and Sacramento area, go through the study details and consent them for participation. Collects urine and blood samples and transfers samples to the laboratory in Davis. Processes human urine and blood samples. Performs other laboratory duties such as immunoassays, tissue culture, protein extraction. Some work with mass spectrometers. Maintains a database of samples and human data. Helps apply for IRB approval and maintenance of IRB applications. Helps devise protocols for ongoing studies. Helps keep track of and order supplies and keeps laboratory in compliance with regulatory and safety requirements.REQUIRED--Certified in Phlebotomy preferred--Ability to meet patients in several locations by having access to vehicle and driver license (work-related driving and parking fees will be reimbursed)--Experience maintaining legible and complete records --Proficiency Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint to prepare tables, charts, graphics, slides, and written documents in different formats --Meticulous, detail-oriented, organized, self-motivated, punctual and reliable--Excellent interpersonal skills to interact constructively and professionally with individuals at all levels --Openness and interest in learning new skills PREFERRED--Bachelor degree or equivalent education and experience in Biology--Experience in a basic science laboratory --Experience with tissue culture and basic molecular biology skills such as cloning, PCR, and western blot analysis --Experience with patients in clinical settings --Experience in purchasing of laboratory supplies, equipment inventory, laboratory safety knowledge or training SPECIAL REQUIREMENT - THIS POSITION MAY BE SUBJECT TO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION, DRUG SCREEN, LIVE SCAN FINGERPRINTING, MEDICAL EVALUATION CLEARANCE, AND FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY ASSESSMENT
