The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) seeks a Government Relations Fellow to assist the advocacy work being done on behalf of its membership in Washington, DC. This fellowship would begin September 4 and last through December 22, 2017.
The CCCU is a professional association of 180 campuses in 20 nations whose mission is to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help our member institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth. The CCCU coordinates professional development opportunities for administrators and faculty, manages U.S. based and international off-campus student programs, provides public advocacy for Christ-centered higher education and manages cooperative efforts among its member campuses (www.cccu.org).
Assisting with the day to day operations of the Government Relations Office including:
Fielding inquiries by phone and email
Handling all scheduling requests
Making and tracking travel arrangements for the Vice President
Assisting with all correspondence
Maintaining the Government Relations Office’s records
Assisting with planning and attending meetings on Capitol Hill
Assist the President and Vice President for Government & External Relations in forming, maintaining and furthering relationships with key constituents in the higher education community
Facilitate and coordinate communication between the CCCU, constituents at member colleges and universities, and key government and other external stakeholders
Attend external events and briefings, as needed
Manage constituent inquiries
Develop and maintain contacts and records of key stakeholders in the CCCU database
Keep record of the activities of the Government Relations department, including meetings held, advocacy positions taken, and letters signed, as well as all other public statements made/positions taken
Assist the Legislative Assistant in conducting research for preparing speeches and presentations given to member institutions and the public
Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Persons applying for the position should:
Have a strong familiarity with Christian Higher Education and appreciation for the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU and its BestSemester programs
Have exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Have obtained bachelor’s degree recently (within the last 2 years) from a CCCU institution (at least 5 years in a similar role)
Affirm the Nicene creed, have a commitment to Christ-centered higher education, and believe in the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU
Possess an interest in the political process, the ability to do fast and accurate research, and enjoy writing
Other Requirements Include:
Ability to work for long periods if time at the computer
High comfortability with public speaking and attending meetings on behalf of the CCCU
Ability to work at a fast pace and multi-task
Be detail oriented and able to produce work that is free from mistakes.
