To recruit prospective students, represent the college at both on and-off campus events, review applications and make admissions recommendations, and maintain personal contact with students and their families throughout the admissions process. Additionally, this position implements and leads a data-informed recruitment and enrollment strategy that advances the college’s commitment to recruiting, enrolling, and retaining domestic multicultural students and first generation and/or low income students.
We are looking to hire a candidate either at the Assistant Dean level OR at the Associate Dean level.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Develop and Lead Multicultural Recruitment and Enrollment Strategy – 25% of time
Coordinate and manage a recruitment and admissions plan in collaboration with the Director of Admissions that engages the entire admissions staff in recruiting and enrolling domestic multicultural students and first generation and/or low income students
Strengthen and cultivate relationships with community based organizations, scholarship programs, and college access programs that serve first generation and/or low income students
Mentor and train the Admissions staff to effectively recruit students from diverse backgrounds and connect the staff with community based organizations, counselors, and college access programs in their travel territories
Serve as the primary contact for the Posse Foundation and lead the Posse student selection process in Chicago
Facilitate the application process, selection process, and logistics for fly-in programs
Lead the committee process for the Student Support Services/Summer Bridge Program
Partner with the Assistant Dean of Enrollment Operations to establish programming for on-campus and off-campus events
Collaborate with the Center for Multicultural and International Engagement, Student Support Services, Alumni and Parent Relations, faculty, and current students for on-campus and off-campus recruitment programming
Assess the efficacy of strategy annually and provide a written report to the Director of Admissions
On-Campus Recruitment - 25% of time
Lead information sessions for visiting prospective students
Conduct interviews with prospective students and provide written feedback
Maintain highly personalized contact with prospective students
Represent the college at all on-campus Admissions events
Off-Campus Recruitment - 25% of time
Strategically plan travel for Chicago recruitment territory
Represent St. Olaf College at college fairs and high school visits
Conduct off-campus interviews and provide written feedback
Build relationships with high school counselors, community based organizations, and alumni
Application Review - 25% of time
Review applications from recruitment territory and make admissions and scholarship recommendations
Actively engage in admissions committee to collaboratively make enrollment decisions
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
Ability to interact positively and professionally with a diverse population of students, parents, faculty and staff
Ability to plan, organize and implement multiple projects seeing them through to successful conclusion
Knowledge of admissions and financial aid processes, policies, and practices
Knowledge and awareness of the needs and aspirations of a highly selective, residential, liberal arts institution
Demonstrates strong writing and speaking skills
Ability to work autonomously and as an active member of a team
Skill in using computer applications including spreadsheet and word processing software
Ability to travel during peak recruitment times
Ability and willingness to support, respect and commit to embracing diverse backgrounds, values and points of view to build a strong and inclusive community including faculty, staff, students and constituents
Education: Bachelor’s Degree; maintain a valid driver’s license and meet St. Olaf College driver authorization criteria with a satisfactory driving record.
Assistant Dean: 2+ years of professional, Admissions-related work experience
Associate Dean: 6+ years of professional Admissions work experience
Experience: Experience with multicultural recruitment in a higher education admissions office or in a community based organization; ability to converse in second language
