The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics is seeking applications for the position of Associate Director of Athletic Communications for Women'sBasketball. The position isexpected to direct with personal involvement the publicityand media relations efforts for women's basketball and any other assignedsports.
Dutiesinclude, media management, media guide preparation, news releases, compilingstatistics which is distributed to national, regional and state media outlets;engage in media relations activities, game operations, result reporting,liaison to the conference office, feature writing, assist in production ofvideos, assist with arranging radio broadcasts both home and away, travel toaway games and other special projects. Perform duties related to providing aconsistent and continuing public relations program for the Department ofIntercollegiate Athletics, primarily by maintaining a readily accessible,accurate and useful news and information service.
Directthe increase of exposure for the athletic program through the news media,social media and public. Performance requires accuracy and professionalism withconsciousness of the image projected. Efficient performance is critical to thesuccess of the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics due to the relationshipof this position to the public relations functions with the department.Coordinate withpersonal involvement the regional and national television coverage of assignedsports games during each season. Duties include meeting with announcers andproducers, providing team and University information, research material and statisticson behalf of the University in preparation of a telecast that will reachthousands of households.
Assistwith the publicity and media relations efforts and major projects related tofootball. Duties include media guide preparation, news releases, mediarelations activities, game operations, feature writing, travel to away games ifrequested and other special projects. Participate in weekly football operationsmeetings for all home games; compile and distribute gameday information toathletic department personnel, local media and fans. Travel to away footballgames as needed; compile in-game notes and assist in postgame interviewsessions.
Coordinate, assign andcritique the work of the graduate and student assistants as that work relatesto the coverage of all varsity sports, with special emphasis on theirindividual work with the prioritized sports and special department projects.Monitor the work schedule of the graduate and student assistants, coordinateassignments from the sports information director as requested, delegate writingand other assignments as appropriate, edit brochure copy and coordinate andsupervise game operations involving the student workers.
Assistwith home game media operations for all sports, including recruiting workers,scheduling and maintaining payroll information, for varsity sports. Arrange forthe training of statistical support for various sports as needed as part ofevent operation and result reporting. Assist with press box and media operationsfor football and men's basketball home events. Coordinate on-site championshipevents for varsity sports, serving as the liaison from the sports informationstaff.
Serve as a publicrelations representative with the staff, athletic teams, other schools, media,fans, alumni and general public. Assist with community relations programsinvolving the athletic department, both involving student-athletes in civic andcampus projects and in introducing special groups to WVU athletics in generaland by sport.
Perform other job-related assignments as assigned bythe Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Communications and/or SeniorAssociate Athletic Director for Athletic Communications.
