Potomac State College, part of the West Virginia University system of campuses, is seeking qualified candidates for a Science Tutor position. This full-time, 9-month position will tutor students in biology and chemistry courses while participating in the delivery of a range of services provided by the Academic Success Center.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Provide tutoring on an individual and small group basis to assist students to improve performance in biology and chemistry courses.
Diagnose individual deficiencies in knowledge of biology and chemistry, and assist students to understand and address those deficiencies.
Provide workshops on subjects related to biology and college success.
Teach WVUe 191 (one section annually).
Compile data on services provided, including number of students tutored and results achieved.
Assist with placement testing and providing make-up exams in the Success Center.
Assist in providing accommodations for students as specified by Accessibility Services.
Participate in College events, including Open Houses.
Work closely with biology and chemistry faculty and others concerned with mathematical competencies to maintain knowledge of curricular learning outcomes.
Work Hours: 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (possibly one evening per week)
