Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinguished candidate for a Program Director in the Department of Social Work within the School of Social Sciences, Education & Business. This is a tenure-track position beginning August 2018 and will overlap one year with the current director. Appointment of rank and salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will possess an MSW with at least two years of subsequent practice experience. The PhD or DSW in social work or closely related field is preferred. Candidates with MSW degree only must be willing to earn a doctoral degree in social work education. A record of successful college teaching, familiarity with CSWE requirements and professional experience is desired. Candidates must be strongly committed to the educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the University.
The successful candidate will have Program Director responsibilities as well as teach social work courses such as the introductory social work class, mezzo and macro level practice courses and potential social work electives. He/she will represent the program in university, local, and professional community contexts. Student advising, practicum supervision, student service learning application, student cross-cultural experiences, and committee assignments are also included.
The social work department serves approximately 75 majors. The department has had a baccalaureate level program (either BA or BS) accredited by CSWE since 1980. The department of social work promotes the development of lifelong learners by empowering students to minister the redemptive love of Jesus Christ through social justice within the individual, group and global environments. This mission is accomplished through 1) preparing baccalaureate level social workers to become competent and effective beginning generalist practitioners that includes formal or informal lifelong learning; 2) integrating Christian values with professional social work values to challenge worldviews, personal beliefs, societal constructs; and 3) globalizing students’ perspectives and experiences and sensitizing circles of influence to the issues and experiences of diverse, vulnerable, and often marginalized population groups in an effort to advance social justice. The department is comprised of three full-time faculty members.
