Perform the installation, termination, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting of voice, data, and video copper and fiber optic cabling systems as well as cabling systems for other media types for other Low Voltage Systems including, but not limited to, the following:
Perform Site Surveys using construction plans and specifications. Conduct visual site inspections.
Testing - use tone test set, volt-ohm –meter, diagnose open, shorted, crossed, and split pairs, active circuits, UTP certification using handheld testers, optical fiber singlemode/multimode using light source/power meter and OTDR.
Remain Current on Industry Practices – attend training/safety meetings, read industry journals/magazines, join professional trade organizations, keep up with standards/codes trends.
2. Plan, organize and direct the work of job crew employees on a daily basis.
3. Discipline and counsel employees as needed. Motivate employees on a regular basis. 4. Maintain familiarity with plans, specifications and job contract scope. 5. Monitor and manage tool, equipment and material inventory of Service Vehicle or project.
6. Maintain the Service Vehicle in a clean and orderly manner. Ensure that service and repair is performed in a timely manner. 7. Monitor the work to ensure that workmanship is completed in accordance with BICSI, TIA/EIA standards, and Local and National Electrical Code requirements.
8. Establish good relationship with the client. Obtain acceptance and approval of completed work.
9. Provide technical assistance, i.e., interpretation of drawings, recommending construction methods and equipment, etc., as required.
10. Ensure that area where service work is performed is properly restored to normal and clean conditions when work is complete.
11. Order materials and request manpower as needed. Monitor, track and approve employee work time as necessary.
12. Ensure that all personnel under supervision are working in compliance with safety procedures. Document violations; notify Safety Director, recommend/implement corrective actions as required.
13. Coordinate manpower. Attend job scheduling and coordination meetings

Incumbent must be proficient in installing and testing structured cabling systems (SCS) for voice, data, and video applications as well as installing and testing other cabling systems for Nurse Call, Access Control, CCTV, BAS, Security, Paging, and DAS. This individual is also responsible for organizing, supervising and directing the work of the assigned job crew performing the cabling installation. This individual will serve as a liaison between the Customer and the Project Manager or equal. This individual will be responsible for organizing and controlling the preparation and execution of cabling systems to meet company objectives of cost, quality and equipment conservation. Monitor and document the progress of the assigned structured cabling systems, including the quality and quantity of work performed by the job crew. Includes responsibility for job safety standards in accordance with OSHA regulations and corporate safety policies and procedures. Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of job functions and duties of all subordinates.
Experience, Education and Skills Required
Must have ability to read, write and communicate at a 12th grade (high school) level. Must have the ability to communicate effectively in the English Language in order to communicate job requirements and safety standards to the assigned job crew. Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills combined with technical understanding of voice, data, and fiber optic systems. Educational/experience requirements are a minimum Ten (10) years’ experience as a structured cabling systems Installer or Technician and currently hold and maintain an active BICSI Certified Technician certification. Must have sufficient knowledge to understand the estimating of Time and Material work. Must have strong working knowledge of BICSI and TIA/EIA installation standards and the National Electrical Code (NEC). Must possess the ability to troubleshoot structured cabling systems and all associated material and equipment. Must be able to layout a project, which includes the ability to read and interpret blueprints. Must be proficient in the use of all tools, equipment, and testers related to structured cabling work. Must have working knowledge of construction, electrical work and other systems. Must have selling abilities to act upon additional work opportunities and recommend preventative maintenance or necessary repairs to client.

Travel, Hours of Work & Supervision
The BICSI Technician works cooperatively with the Low Voltage Department management to coordinate daily work activities. The BICSI Technician is required to travel as necessary to job sites to perform work or attend meetings. Travel may require the BICSI Technician to stay out of town for extended periods of time to meet job demands. The BICSI Technician position requires a starting time as directed and assigned by management; there is no pre-determined start or stop time for this position. The BICSI Technician is responsible for schedule adjustments as necessary to insure the satisfactory support and completion of all projects and customer commitments. BICSI Technicians will be required to carry a cell phone and may be required to respond to customer emergencies or customer scheduled activities at any time of the day or night, including weekends. The BICSI Technician is responsible for checking email and voice mail with immediate supervisor daily for job assignments.
