The ACPA Director of Development is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position. Reporting to and in partnership with the Executive Director, the Director of Development will lead development efforts. The Board has identified the implementation of a Development Plan as a primary goal for the organization. This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all of ACPA’s fundraising activities, including: the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, special events and capital campaigns. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Directors in all development and fundraising endeavors. The Director will be expected to achieve revenue goals set forth in the plan. A new position in the organization, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to build the development functions. Attendance at the week-long ACPA Annual Meeting is required, as is occasional evening and weekend work at local meetings.
The Director of Development must be a skilled fundraiser with excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated and goal-oriented, and have experience building a small program into a thriving one. Former non-profit experience, personal connection to the organizational mission, and familiarity with a CRM database are a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Communications or related field.
At least 5 years’ experience in fundraising.
Experience in appropriate and effective communication with diverse populations.
Proven fundraising competencies and experience.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and history of maintaining positive relationships with business contacts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to convey information clearly, succinctly and effectively in various forms.
Ability to work proactively and manage multiple priorities to successfully achieve goals.
Ability to coach and support senior leadership, including volunteers, in fundraising and communications.
Team player with an ability to work with individuals both within and outside of the organization including volunteer leaders, individuals and families in the cleft-craniofacial community, professional members of ACPA, and other employees.
Experience using technology solutions, survey tools, databases, and other office communications technology. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
