The Office of Research and Sponsored Projects (ORSP) is the University of Michigan (U-M) office responsible for the submission of proposals, negotiation and acceptance of awards, and non-financial management of grants and contracts. ORSP enables and safeguards the conduct of research and other sponsored activity for the University of Michigan. We apply specialized regulatory, statutory, and organizational knowledge in a timely and professional manner in order to balance the University's mission, the sponsor's objectives, and the investigator's intellectual pursuits.
ORSP is seeking candidates for a Data and Reporting Assistant. The Data and Reporting Assistant will report to the ORSP Data and Reporting Manager, and will help support sponsored research data reporting and analytics including U-M’s Enterprise Data Warehouse, Business Objects, SQL, Tableau, Lucid Charts, and other application tools. The Data and Reporting Assistant will also be charged with developing documentation of, and providing support to ORSP staff, of sponsor electronic systems for proposal submission and award management. The best candidate is concerned with accuracy, and data integrity, is responsive to end user needs, and has the ability to work with and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues and customers. A salary outside of the posted range will be considered for the exceptionally qualified candidate exceeding posting qualifications.
Key responsibilities of the ORSP Data and Reporting Assistant at U-M include:
In collaboration with U-M stakeholders, design and implement business processes in support of best practices for interacting with sponsor systems, most often used by ORSP staff related to proposal submissions and award management, and serve as a resource to ORSP staff regarding these systems;
Develop, customize and revise eResearch Custom reports, graphs and dashboards for the University of Michigan Office of Research, ORSP, and the research community;
Develop, monitor and support ORSP business processes such as eRPM inbound emails, sponsor codes requests, U-M cost share reports, and eResearch data integrity reports;
Attend weekly scheduled meetings with the ORSP Data and Reporting Manager;
Provide on-going documentation for job duties; and
Other duties as assigned, including collaboration with team members and customers in all aspects of eResearch systems (ie. Assist in the annual revisions of existing Lucid Charts transition maps, and assist in the design, and implementation of maps for new business processes).
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and education
2 - 4 years of experience in a related role requiring confidentiality, timeliness, customer service, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting and working independently to successfully develop, maintain and support systems / applications
Excellent work ethic
Ability to work independently, prioritize work and multitask in a time sensitive, high volume work environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality in office operational transactions.

U.S. Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident Status: ORSP deals with export controlled information, the handling of which is regulated by the U.S. Federal Government and access to which is restricted to U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents
Significant knowledge of eResearch systems, in particular Proposal Management
Significant knowledge of Business Objects, and SQL, Tableau
Significant knowledge of Filemaker Pro
Experience with LucidCharts
Experience with Qualtrics
Experience with Google Suite of products
