This Research Assistant will assist the Knight Chair in Journalism and Digital Media Economics in administrative and research activities. S/he will have exceptional attention to detail, organizational and time management skills with demonstrated experience working with complex databases. S/he will be responsible for the Knight Chair's nationally recognized newspaper database, ensuring it is accurate and accessible to academics and industry users. S/he will need to regularly produce graphics based on this database for national audiences. S/he will be responsible for the Knight Chair's accounting and administrative needs, so must have a customer/client-focused mindset. S/he will have excellent interpersonal skills as the position will require substantial communication and coordination with a variety of individuals, within the school, university and profession. S/he must be familiar with professional writing and skilled in creating PowerPoint presentations, as the person in this position contributes substantially to online reports and presentations for academic, professional and general-interest audiences. A passion for and commitment to local journalism and academic integrity is a must. Excel, PowerPoint, Word Press and Twitter skills are required.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Candidates must possess a solid understanding of the mission and goals of the Knight Chairs and the ability to partner effectively with staff and faculty at participating universities, media outlets and their teams. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and writing skills. Also important is the ability to think critically and strategically and to work collaboratively with others. An interest in digital media, quality journalism, community engagement is a must. Commitment to and skills in working with diverse populations essential. Must have strong Excel, Twitter, Word Press and PowerPoint skills and working knowledge of Adobe Suite.
Strong preference for candidates that possess creativity, analytical skills, self-motivation and the ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
