The DevOps Engineer provides support for infrastructure, applications, and database components of both on premise and Cloud Application systems for Harvard University.
As a member of the Harvard community, this individual will work collaboratively, developing solid working relationships with HUIT customers, staff, management, consultants and vendors. This individual will also provide mentorship and guidance to HUIT technical teams, building awareness of database and application best practices and operational procedures. Reporting to the DevOps Manager, one of several on the team.
Provides expertise in AWS, scripting, automation and support of application full stack.
The primary focus will be to support AWS infrastructure automation centered around Active Directory and Identity and access management systems.
The HUIT team supports multiple environments including technologies such as Apache and WebLogic.
Core database platforms supported include Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL.
Core technical responsibilities will include installing, configuring, writing and releasing code developed by DevOps team members; managing and monitoring multiple development, test and production environments; triaging and resolving operational issues; working with development teams on system design and performance tuning; and designing and implementing database and server security protocols. The DevOps engineer will work directly with internal customers to provide analysis, recommendations and solutions for creating, upgrading, integrating, and managing database and application systems in a distributed environment.
This position will assist in the support of AWS infrastructure. Therefore, the ability to create, maintain, and develop scripted solutions for the following is highly desired:
Microsoft Windows Workloads, including Active Directory, ADFS and FIM
An automated deployment pipeline for application code, configuration and patches designed for frequent releases without disruption to the end-user community
The DevOps Engineer will serve on a rotation providing 24x7 on-call support for production systems supported by the HUIT DevOps team. HUIT strongly supports ongoing professional development including keeping up with emerging technology and trends with respect to Cloud technologies and supporting tools and systems.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
Five to seven years' experience working as an Active Directory Administrator supporting enterprise level implementation in a multi domain, multi forest environment.
Four plus years of experience working with DevOps methodologies supporting applications and infrastructure.
Degree in Computer Science is preferable.
The following DevOps/Cloud skills are highly desired:
Working knowledge of key AWS offerings such as CloudFormation, EC2, VPC, ELB, RDS, Route 53, CodeDeploy, S3, Direct Connect, Security Groups, CloudWatch
Experience with creating infrastructure as code (CloudFormation, CLI, Shell, Python, Ruby, PowerShell)
Strong networking and system administration skills on both Linux or Windows platform
Strong understanding of authentication and authorization systems such as Active Directory and LDAP
Working knowledge of Quest AD tools (i.e. Recovery Manger, Migration Manager)
Release engineering experience and ability to design and develop automated deployment solutions
Working knowledge of Subversion, BitBucket, Git or other version control tools
Working knowledge of orchestration and configuration management tools like Jenkins, Ansible Tower, Chef, Puppet,
Experience using log analysis tools like Splunk
Candidates should also have solid working experience designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting ERP systems, web and application server software such as Apache and WebLogic/Tomcat and relational database systems such as Oracle in both production and non-production environments. In addition, candidates must, from a database and applications perspective, have in-depth technical knowledge of operating systems, such as Windows, Linux, and Solaris as well as virtual environments like VMware.
Experience in disaster recovery, project management experience and knowledge of ITIL and Agile principles.
