The Environmental & Occupational Medicine & Epidemiology (EOME) Program in the Department of Environmental Health has an opening for a Research Assistant. The EOME program seeks to investigate and prevent health risks associated with environmental and occupational hazards by conducting original research and outstanding professional education. The ultimate goal of our research is to provide scientific basis for prudent and responsible decisions in environmental, occupational, and health standards, and to inform and inspire clinical and public health practice.
The Research Assistant will perform and coordinate a wide range of research procedures and duties related to studies focused on environmental exposures and diet in relation to reproductive health and children's health. The RA will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and Research Nurse Manager and collaborate with other HSPH-based study research staff, students, and post-docs.
Specific responsibilities include facilitating study participant recruitment and tracking and coordinating data collection, data entry, data tracking, data qa/qc programs, and data documentation. The Research Assistant will be responsible for data management activities in collaboration with the study programmer and investigators, will assist in the design of new study protocols and be responsible for their implementation, and for establishing and maintaining the quality and integrity of the data; must be familiar with various data management software and basic word processing and spreadsheet software. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for some laboratory-based work to process biosamples including defrosting, aliquoting, and shipping of urine samples.
Additional Research Assistant responsibilities may include:
1. Study participant recruitment (parents and their children): mail invitation letters and make follow-up phone calls, track responses, and schedule study visits. 2. Meet regularly with the study investigators, submit reports of project status, and suggest modifications or improvements to efficiency of study visits. 3. Data entry/management and human subjects research document tracking. 4. Collate, organize, draft, and edit material for the preparation of research papers, manuscripts, progress reports, articles, or other documents for publications and/or presentation related to project activities. 5. Process and help organize study results using a variety of word processing and spreadsheets. 6. Other duties as required.
This position will work at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, MA .

- 1+ years of related work experience; a combination of education and experience may be considered.
- A knowledge of Microsoft Access is strongly preferred. - Bachelors or Masters degree in science preferred. - Prior research experience preferred (e.g. report writing; data collection and analysis; database management). - Proficiency and knowledge of MS platforms, including Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel required.
Excellent technical, analytical, computer, organizational, and problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills, and the ability to work independently, under supervision and as part of a team preferred. Ability to organize work, define priorities, take initiative and meet deadlines preferred. Must be able to handle multiple priorities in a complex environment.
