The Academic Technology group supports teaching, learning, and research across schools and units at Harvard. Reporting to the Director of Tools & Development in Academic Technology, the Product Owner will work as part of an Agile team to define, build, maintain, and support software and services related to the pedagogical mission of the University. The Agile team is dedicated to the priorities established by the Vice Provost for Advances in Learning (VPAL), which is working to advance the science of learning and ensure that Harvard remains a leader in teaching and learning innovation. The Product Owner will work with VPAL and other stakeholders to understand, establish, and evolve the vision of products and services, which will range from prototypes, to pilots, to full services used by the Harvard community. The Product Owner will work with the Agile team communicate this vision and to translate this vision into a prioritized backlog of work.
The Product Owner will: conduct acceptance testing and support launch of new product features in focus areas; partner with Agile facilitator to assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency and radiating information about team progress; identify risk and their mitigations in the backlog and coordinate with other teams across Harvard on dependencies; collaborate with other team members to continually improve processes to become more efficient; support defining minimum viable product; communicate the feature or product strategy effectively to team and key stakeholders.

The candidate demonstrates flexibility and adaptability while bringing order and structure to the projects.

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications in order to be considered for this role.
● Bachelor degree with 3+ years demonstrated experience in product owner role or similar role. ● Experience working as part of an Agile team with demonstrable knowledge in writing good user stories.
● Proven ability to establish and cultivate relationships with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels. ● Proven ability to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences. ● Possess a flexible and adaptable approach to problem solving and processes to find effective paths forward. ● Leadership qualities that enable the ability to influence and negotiate. ● Highly adaptable to changing environment and priorities. ● Excellent critical thinking skills and strong problem solver. ● Strong communications skills, including the ability to engage with stakeholders to understand their business and operations requirements. ● Strong organizational skills and detail orientation. ● Knowledge of product design principles and processes, as well as agile software development methodologies ● Experience with Jira, Trello, or other software supporting Agile methodologies.
The following are desired but not required:
