The Senior Network Engineer (VoIP) - Campus Network Engineering, reporting to the Manager of Network Engineering, participates in the design, implementation, and support of the network services of HUIT's IT infrastructure.
Work closely with peer Sr. Network Engineers, Network Architect, Network Operations, DevOps, Controls and Instrumentation, Platform and Unified Communication teams, as well as key IT stakeholders throughout the University.
Plan and manage medium to large network related projects from design to implementation and operations (PDIO) within a dynamic network infrastructure, as well as create and maintain appropriate documentation infrastructure, standards and projects related to VoIP.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide daily engineering support of the Harvard University VoIP network infrastructure
Solve technical/infrastructure client issues
Procurement of hardware and software, inventory tracking, as well as providing technical leadership for Field Engineers and Operations Support staff
Assist & provide project leadership in completing project tasks
Serve as a key resource to the HUIT team/ key IT stakeholders throughout the University
Mentor Network Engineers, Field LAN & Wireless Engineers, NOC Technicians, Systems Engineers
All members of the team are encouraged to explore new technologies. HUIT supports ongoing professional development including conference attendance, course work and experimentation
Participation in a 24 x 7 x 365 on-call rotation schedule is required

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science, and / or a minimum of 5-7 years demonstrated technical network experience in a large Cisco LAN/WAN environment
Familiar with managing Cisco Unified Call Center Managers, UNITY voicemail systems, H323 and SIP voice gateways
A minimum of 3 years of network related project management experience.
The successful engineer will also possess:
solid grasp of UCC Call Center technologies
Proven knowledge of established Ethernet, BGP, OSPF, Spanning Tree Protocol, and multicasting
DNS, DHCP and TCP/IP
IPv6 is a must
Excellent communication skills and technical writing ability
Strong consulting skills and ability to work with other teams to find common solutions or coordinate cross-discipline activities
Ability to manage through influence and negotiation.
Experience with Cloud, SaaS, IaaS, or PaaS.
Experience in designing networks or systems for high availability, security, manageability, and reliability.
Advanced analysis and troubleshooting skills. Ability to automate/script repeatative time taking tasks through Bash, Python or equivalent programming languages.
Broad knowledge and understanding of emerging technologies, technology trends and their applicability in a university setting.
