This is a fully benefited, full-time Harvard University position that has been funded until June 28, 2019. There is the possibility of renewal, contingent on funding, university priorities and satisfactory job performance.
The Scrum Master is dedicated to 2 scrum teams within Harvard's central IT organization focusing on migrating applications from on-premise data center to Cloud. Role will enable Agile team members to complete sprint goals and continuously improve the process.

Maintain a cadence and facilitate team Scrum events:
Sprint Planning: facilitate an outcome of a team commitment to sprint goal(s) with Product Owner(s) to answer questions. Scrum Master will ensure team has created a realistic plan, identify dependencies, agrees on objectives, understands milestones, and is aligned with delivering specified work at the end of each Sprint
Daily: ensure the team has a time and place to huddle every day so team members can identify issues and resolve them, determine the next thing to work on, and get any updates on resolution of impediments. Scrum Master will focus on how best to enable the team using agile techniques, identifying inefficiencies, or pulling items off the sprint backlog to work on.
Sprint Review: help the team review their sprint's work with stakeholders, other teams, and management; ensure the event creates an environment to solicit feedback that flows into the future work per team's norms
Team Retrospective: facilitate the team's reflection on its processes, team dynamics, work to identify incremental improvements that will help ensure success and , implement and evaluate feedback determine if change was effective.
Backlog Refinement: Work closely with Product Owners to ensure the Backlog is ordered, understandable, and available for Team. Facilitate the process for team to understand what work the Product Owner(s) are asking for in enough detail to size and consider the work "ready" to enter a sprint.
Work cross functionally with other Scrum Masters and Leaders to align technical and delivery strategy, manage dependencies, and ensure the alignment is visible to Team Members and other interested parties
Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information about team progress (through burn up, burn down and velocity tracking)
Ensure productivity by fostering team communication, empowerment, and accountability. Help the team manage and resolve conflicts. Use a servant leader approach to help team identify blockers and stay aligned with sprint goals in order to maximize completion of user stories and identify variances from team norms. Ensure happiness of the team.
Apply agile principles to key infrastructure projects that may not fall under traditional agile management processes.
Potentially manage vendor relationships and ensure their work aligns with the goals of our agile development teams, including budget oversight and management.
Understand enough of the team's work and technology to participate in team processes and jump in to take on some tasks as needed.
Keep Scrum artifacts visible and maintain the pace/diligence with team members to keep a pulse on the sprint progress leveraging the tools to support the delivery process.
Conduct research Participate in agile activities such as community of practice.

4+ years of relevant experience in technology applications ideally as a dedicated Scrum Master
In-depth knowledge of Agile, with extensive experience using Scrum and Kanban techniques, as well as of agile excellence topics such as unit testing, sprint testing, code reviews, and knowledge in writing high quality user stories
Leadership qualities that enable the ability to influence and negotiate
Must be collaborative in driving decisions and able to deal with multiple projects and deadlines
Strong proficiency with task sequencing, dependencies and 3rd party vendor responsibilities for a software development project
Experience using project planning software, JIRA and Confluence
Team-building, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
Experience managing cross-functional teams, sometimes with team members that are not fully dedicated
Experience working and teaching teams to follow Scrum Framework from new team towards mature processes
Excellent critical thinking skills, ability to find and solve root causes of problems amid "noise"
Excellent written and verbal communication skills when working with both internal business and technical people and with external customers, ability to solidify vague requests, explain issues, and guide to solutions
Scrum master and product owner certifications will be a plus
Knowledge of Cloud, ideally AWS, and DevOps
Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.
Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games
Ability to work with several direct and indirect managers simultaneously
