Reporting to the Director of IT Security Operations, the Senior Information Security Engineer is a lead contributor to the Security Operations team, helping to shape the direction of information security activities at Harvard. The successful candidate will: lead the response to security issues across the University network for all community members (faculty, students and staff); lead the development and implementation of new tools and techniques to better secure Harvard's networks; serve in an on-call rotation for the Computer Security Incident Response Team, including after-hours as needed; act as an internal consultant; become a subject matter expert in multiple aspects of information security; cross-train and mentor other members of the team.
Primary areas of focus include:
Recognize and respond to information security incidents, serving as a lead on the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT).
Analyze network traffic for anomalous activity and investigate as appropriate.
Identify and understand potential threats and vulnerabilities and recommend mitigations.
Perform digital forensics as part of incident response and in response to other community needs.
Author and edit incident reports.

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
Deep experience as an IT professional with at least seven years of experience in information security in a complex, heterogeneous network environment.
Strong knowledge of Windows and Linux system administration.
TCP/IP networking and protocol analysis.
Experience using a Help Desk ticketing system.
Experience with: scripting or programming; vulnerability scanning tools and processes; application security testing tools and processes; current penetration testing technologies and practices.
Experience participating in digital forensics investigations using current technologies and practices.
Working knowledge of OSX system administration.
Writing and preparing of technical reports.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to teach and collaborate.
Also strongly preferred:
Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) in good standing.
Hold one or more of the following: Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) certifications in good standing: GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA), GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN), GIAC Certified Forensic Examiner (GCFE), GIAC Certified Forensic Analyst (GCFA).
