Reporting directly to the Senior Director Curriculum, the Director Experiential Learning will plan, design, implement, and evaluate experiential learning across the continuum of simulated experiences (e.g. Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) skill acquisition, standardized patients, low to high-fidelity simulators, OSCE). Oversees the OU-HCOM Clinical Training and Assessment Centers, manages clinical skills activities for students in Years 1 – 4 of OU-HCOM, and directs the Osteopathic Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for OU-HCOM. Provide leadership for the ongoing development of a clinical skills education program, to prepare educators to use experiential learning to advance the education, patient care, and research and innovation missions of the College, including strategic planning, faculty development and coordinating clinical training and assessment. This position requires working closely with faculty, administrators and staff to assist in the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs that serve the diverse faculty across the College. Be a productive scholar in the aforementioned areas. The successful incumbent should have the demonstrated ability to maintain harmonious working relationships and effectively address complex and sensitive administrative issues.
-Administers the overall operation, including fiscal oversight and records management, of the Clinical Training and Assessment Centers (CTAC). Assists faculty in developing clinical skills activities for students in Years 1 – 4, including laboratories with both simulated and standardized patients, and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine laboratories, in accordance with Ohio University and OU-HCOM syllabi, policies and procedures. Provide guidance for optimizing experiential learning and simulation curriculum design and delivery according to best practices from the healthcare, education, and performance sciences.
-Develops and administers the year 3 OSCE for all students on all campuses, including recruitment and training of faculty evaluators, and for hiring, training, and performance management of standardized patients.
-Designs and implements faculty development on the use of experiential learning and simulation to support knowledge and skill acquisition for application in a clinical setting. Design and lead/facilitate workshops, mentoring programs, periodic faculty retreats, and online training programs for faculty. Identify written and electronic resources in faculty development and create a database of resources that are readily accessible to faculty and staff. When appropriate, customize to our specific needs.
-Supervise and perform job evaluations and reports on personnel. Build (annually) and monitor (monthly) the operating budget.
-Doctoral Degree in EdD (doctorate degree in education) or PhD in an education oriented field, organizational psychology, or clinical education (e.g. medicine, nursing education, health professions education)
-3 years of work related experience.
-3 years of supervisory or managerial responsibilities.
-Experience with medical education curriculum development, learning assessment, program evaluation, faculty development and scholarship.
-A focus in any of the following areas of learning sciences, quantitative research, science education, medical education, and/or teacher education is required,
-Evidence of teaching excellence and knowledge of preparing professionals for practice
- 3 years experience on the use of simulation as a learning modality in a health professions learning environment (e.g. higher education or hospital-based environments).
-Certified Instructor in ACLS, PALS or other advanced certifications in life support/trauma.
-5 years of work related experience -5 years of supervisory or managerial responsibilities -Experience working in the field of medical education -Expertise in curriculum development, implementation, learning, and assessment.
