Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) has an opening within the Clinical Physics Service of the Department of Medical Physics for the position of Treatment Planning Coordinator.
Facility and Equipment:
MSK has a large, cutting-edge program in all aspects of radiation oncology physics that seeks to improve the clinical effectiveness of radiation therapy in partnership with radiation oncologists, radiologists and other medical professionals. Many new programs are ongoing, including: improved treatment planning optimization algorithms, integration of MR and PET imaging into radiotherapy decision making and treatment planning, 4D imaging and motion management, and the development of adaptive radiotherapy processes (www.mskcc.org/departments/medical-physics). MSK radiation oncology and medical physics resources include twenty four linear accelerators, six HDR units, eight CT Simulators, one PET/CT Simulator and one MRI Simulator, as well as state-of-the-art inter- and intra-fractional imaging and motion management capabilities. Significant expansion is expected in the next three years.

MSKCC is a world leader in cancer care and is on the forefront of innovative technologies and approaches in radiotherapy. MSK Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics programs are spread across six facilities including our Manhattan campus on the Upper East Side, one facility in Westchester County, two in Long island and two in New Jersey. A third New Jersey facility will open in early to mid 2018. Campus wide, we treat approximately 550 cancer patients per day. The Clinical Physics Service is staffed with over 90 physicists and planners providing a rich, stimulating work environment. We have a strong philosophy that all facilities will provide outstanding treatment quality that is consistent across our facilities as well as contributing to the overall mission of the center to advance the state of cancer care.
Provide support to the external beam treatment planning group in the areas of scheduling and general planning operations
Scheduling support consists of
assisting the medical physics scheduler in the daily assignment of treatment planning tasks, monitoring of the treatment planning scheduling email and phone, monitoring of section workflow, as well as facilitating fluidity of campus transfers and multi-campus care for optimal patient experience.
General planning operational support includes:
assistance in plan documentation and finalization, facilitating access to treatment planning clinical or procedural information, posting of policies and procedures, and other general support of section operations
This position requires the ability to process different sources of information in a fast paced patient care environment, as well as strong organizational skills
Excellent communication skills, ability to work with multiple departmental sections (treatment planning, simulation, radiation oncology, treatment floor) simultaneously is essential
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent or training as a radiation therapy technologist is required
Thorough grounding in radiation therapy practices and workflow is strongly preferred
