Primary Duties: Under general direction of the Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management Services, the Data/Research Analyst will independently determine research projects and analyze data that support strategic enrollment management decisions, student success initiatives, and Graduation Initiative 2025 strategies and goals that impact EMS. The Data/Research Analyst will recommend innovative studies or new or modified procedures, methods or uses of existing data, and modifications of procedures that will further the goals of EMS and the University. This position will research existing enrollment data and work with functional and technical experts in EMS offices to identify and evaluate operational data and other data sources in Academic Advising Programs, Admissions, Financial Aid and Scholarship, and Office of the Registrar. The Data Research/Analyst will analyze and organize this data to facilitate making smarter and student-centered enrollment management decisions. The Data/Research Analyst will use advanced data mining and statistical analysis techniques to build high quality reporting and predictive systems to improve efficiencies. This position requires experience, and skill, to select, interpret, and transform statistical/analytical findings into easily consumable forms and display in visualization formats, such as dashboards, for lay audiences. The Data/Research Analyst works independently and as part of a team and maintains a customer service and student success focus. Other duties include: prepare interpretive reports and graphic presentation of research and analysis for various audiences using enrollment and institutional data, coordinating and communicating with other CSU and campus staff, preparing unit and University level key performance indicators, creating and editing research reports, and other analytical and research projects as required.
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university. (Additional qualifying professional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)
Three years of progressively responsible technical research or statistical experience including or supplemented by one year in the interpretation and graphic presentation of data.
Graduate study in data science (data mining, machine learning), statistics, education or social science research, may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: Incumbent/applicant will need to be able to perform the essential job functions (duties) of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. This position alternates between remaining in a stationary position operating a personal computer for long periods of time and frequently moving about inside the office. Must be able to travel across campus to other offices and buildings on campus for meetings and events.
WORKENVIRONMENT: This position involves frequent interaction with all members of Enrollment Management Services, members of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs organizations, and other functional and technical members of the campus community. Work is performed in a typical office environment operating standard office equipment.
