The Hospitality Certificate Instructor reports to the Assistant Vice President for the Center for Innovative and Professional Learning (CIPL). Duties include facilitating non-credit hotel management workshops for adult learners who wish to earn the AHLEI Certified Hospitality Supervisor® Certificate and the NRA ServSafe® Food Handler Certificate, which comply with American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI) and National Restaurant Association (NRA) practices. Candidate must have earned these two certifications prior to hire. Instructor is provided AHLEI and NRA training and instructor guides, and is expected to expand upon these materials based on other validated hospitality management sources and his/her own personal management experiences. Workshops are scheduled 6:00-9:00 p.m., two evenings per week for seven weeks on the Ramapo College campus. This schedule may be offered a number of times per year or canceled entirely in response to enrollments or other business needs at the discretion of the CIPL AVP with no fee paid to instructor for canceled workshops. Instructor may also be asked to participate in program information sessions and other promotional/informational efforts.
Adapts provided training guides and materials to increase participant comprehension of content in order to pass certification tests, and to increase participant engagement in learning.
Becomes thoroughly knowledgeable in AHLEI and NRA certification requirements and learning content prior to facilitating training.
Provides CIPL AVP with advance copies of training plans for review and makes all requested revisions prior to workshop.
Facilitates in-person workshops according to agreed schedule and location.
Communicates issues, questions, status, participant reactions and requests, and other academic and business information to CIPL AVP regularly and as requested.
Maintains high participant course satisfaction scores (at least 80% positive across all evaluations)
Other duties as they arise.
Bachelor's degree, preferably in a field related to the program topic
Three years experience designing and presenting interactive adult learning, preferably in hospitality
Knowledge, skill and abilities:
Requires excellent oneonone and group presentation and facilitation skills that exhibit excellent verbal/written communication skills, ethical and sound professional judgment, and a commitment to quality instruction that is sensitive to the needs of individual and diverse students.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate effectively and efficiently in English, to spell correctly, and to use correct sentence and paragraph structure.
Ability to design and produce professional training materials and present training using various presentation media.
