The Mortgage Bankers Association of Metropolitan Washington (MBA/MW) is a regional trade association representing companies and professionals serving the residential and commercial real estate finance industry in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and surrounding counties. MBA/MW provides members a competitive edge by helping them achieve their business objectives through education, advocacy and networking. Our diverse membership of approximately 140 companies includes every facet of the real estate finance community — residential, commercial/multifamily and industry service providers.
Reporting to the Board of Governors, the Executive Director has overall strategic, management and operational responsibility to achieve the association’s mission. Key responsibilities include: Leadership/Board and Committee Management, Operations, Member Relations and Management, Program and Event Management, Financial Management and Oversight, Communications/External Relations. This is a dynamic association that requires a self-starter with excellent communication skills. The Executive Director will work in a virtual environment.
Leadership/Board and Committee Governance:
Provide oversight, leadership and work with the Board of Governors to establish strategies, goals and create/enhance programs to further MBA/MW’s mission.
Provide guidance and timely communications to the Executive Board, Board of Governors and Committees to support the activities and programs of MBA/MW. Promote and support the active participation of member volunteers in all areas of MBA/MW’s work.
Manage MBA/MW’s day-to-day operations including database management, membership recruitment and renewal processes, event registration and ongoing communication with members and potential members.
Respond to inquiries regarding membership, programs, events and services. Develop, design and manage marketing email communications to members and nonmembers regarding legislative issues, events and programs. Maintain MBA/MW’s website and social media activities.
Programs and Event Management:
Plan, promote and manage all MBA/MW programs and events including educational seminars, networking events, golf outings, local full day conference, holiday reception, holiday luncheon and corporate partner sponsorship program.
Responsible for managing financial resources of MBA/MW including day-to-day accounting, budget development and oversight, and reviewing/providing financial statements to ensure financial stability and growth.
Develop and maintain strategic and productive working relationships with other related organizations including the national Mortgage Bankers Association, nearby state associations and other industry related organizations.
Minimum bachelor’s degree required.
At least 5 years of association management experience with a track record of effectively working with Boards and committees.
Demonstrated experience in leadership, operations management, communications, financial management, program management and meeting/event-planning.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills.
Ability to work independently and effectively in collaboration with volunteers, ability to manage volunteers, and set and achieve objectives.
Ability to manage the day-to day operations of trade association in a virtual office environment.
Strong knowledge of accounting and ability to provide financial management based on proven budget and finance experience.
Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to problem solving.
Technologically savvy including proficient user of software applications including database management systems, Microsoft Office, accounting programs, website programs (Timberlake is currently being used), email marketing i.e. Constant Contact.
Small staff association leadership/management experience a plus.
Must be located in the DC metropolitan area and able to travel to local meetings and events.This is a telecommuting position.
