: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for up to one year, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to five additional years\. The PhD must have been conferred within five years prior to employment\. Individuals in postdoctoral positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance\. : We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee with a background in the development and application of computational models to simulate complex physical processes and/or a background in the development of first\-principles electromagnetic models\. These models will incorporate "beyond forward simulation" capabilities such as ensemble modeling, uncertainty quantification, and forward and adjoint sensitivity analysis\. These new applications will need to run on highly scalable machines and with high thread concurrency in an MPI\+X environment\. Key functions of this role include, but are not limited to: + Contribute to the development of new electromagnetic simulation software, designed fornext generation hardware \(e\.g\., Intel Phi MICs and Nvidia GPUs\)+ Contribute to the development, implementation, and documentation of new analytical or computational electromagnetic models for application in research areas such as electromagnetic susceptibility \(electromagnetic radiation, electromagnetic pulse\), , antenna design/characterization, and metamaterials+ Work well in a team environment and closely with members of other Sandia organizations such as Center 1400 "Computing Research", Dept\. 1341 "Radiation Effects Theory" and our sister department, Dept\. 1353 "Electrical Science and Experiments", in the development, verification and validation of computational models Required: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering, physics or closely\-related discipline+ Experience with mathematics, analysis, and logic related to electromagnetic theory, analysis, modeling, and simulation+ Experience developing and using numerical simulations or first\-principles models for complex physical processes+ Experience developing and/or working with full\-wave \(Integral\-Equation Method of Moments, Finite Difference Methods, or Finite\-Element Methods\) software+ Experience in data analysis, post\-processing, C\+\+, and object oriented programming Desired: + PhD specialization in computational simulation or computational electromagnetics + Knowledge of parallel programming, threading, distributed memory, and/or SIMD+ Experience with High Performance Computing architectures and execution+ Experience in MPI, OpenMP, and Cuda+ Demonstrated ability to work with others and contribute to a team effort\.+ Willingness to be flexible in job assignments+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills+ Willingness to develop expertise in different areas of electromagnetics+ Experience in automatic\-differentiation, sensitivity modeling, UQ, and V&V+ Experience with both command\-line Linux and Windows platforms+ Experience with or willingness to learn CAD modeling and mesh generation Department Description: The Electromagnetic Theory department \(1352\) is engaged in development of advanced theory, modeling, simulation and analysis techniques for use across a broad spectrum of electromagnetic and plasma physics environments\. These capabilities support both near term deliverables and long\-term R&D in electromagnetics, plasma physics \(spaning parameter space from high energy density physics to electrical breakdown\), pulsed\-power sciences, nuclear weapons qualification in radiation and electromagnetic environments, and NW surveillance/dismantlement/forensic programs\.
