On any given day, you may be called on to: + Perform research and development in quantum device modeling and characterization+ Develop new theories and protocols to probe, debug, and characterize physical qubit devices+ Collaborate with experimental groups working to create, test, and debug small quantum processors+ Work in collaboration with accomplished experts in quantum information science Required: + PhD, conferred within 5 years prior to employment, in Physics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline+ Experience in a research area related to quantum information processing+ Experience in quantum information theory and formalism+ Experience in UNIX or LINUX operating systems, as well as with an advanced scientific programming language, such as FORTRAN, C, C\+\+, or Python+ Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance Desired: + Experience with quantum tomography \(randomized benchmarking, gate set tomography, etc\.\)+ Scientific programming for high performance parallel computing, including expertise with MPI\-based parallel programming+ Experience with models of quantum computation including, but not limited to the circuit model+ Experience making effective technical presentations and interacting with customers and partner institutions+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills+ Ability to collaborate in a team environment, and interested in interdisciplinary research+ Independent vision, creativity, and ability to pursue and achieve R&D milestones Department Description: The Quantum Phenomena Department \(01867\) is part of the Material, Physical, Chemical Sciences Center at Sandia National Laboratories which creates new scientific knowledge in support of Sandia's national security mission\. We provide science\-based solutions to meet the needs of various offices within the Department of Energy \(especially the Office of Basic Energy Sciences, various Energy Technology Offices, and the National Nuclear Security Administration\) as well as other government agencies\.
