Bachelor’s degree and/or relevant experience in adult/continuing education, professional development or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
Minimum of seven years progressively responsible experience with developing, delivering, evaluating, and continuously improving adult education, accredited medical education, and/or non-profit professional development in a managerial capacity
Requires successful direct experience in managing compliance and maintaining provider status with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)
Working knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system, particularly regulations governing physician education, the pharmaceutical and device industry, the physician practice environment and experience with emerging education formats is preferred
Attention to detail balanced with big-picture perspective; ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple objectives simultaneously
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and track record of building relationships with staff, members, volunteers, vendors, corporations, and education accrediting bodies, as well as outside organizations
Demonstrated accountability, learning agility, and experience in leading and motivating staff in a collaborative team environment
Demonstrated a track record of continually implementing new and innovative ideas
Successful hands-on experience in developing and managing program budgets
Working knowledge of PC-based applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and ability to learn new software and association management system (iMIS) required
Provide leadership and direction to departmental staff including hiring, training, performance management, and professional development
Oversee planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating the Academy’s overall education program and individual activities
Directly or indirectly supervise Senior Manager, Education, Program Manager, Education, and Coordinator, Education positions
Collaborate closely with Meetings and Exhibits staff on content and curriculum design, continuing education compliance, and cross-promotional opportunities
Manage and maintain the Foundation’s ACCME compliance and accreditation; ensure continuous evaluation and improvement
Represent unit in education commercial support, solicitation, review, fulfillment, and evaluation in reference to ACCME compliance
Serve as staff liaison to the Education Steering Committee and nine Education committees, work groups, and task forces as assigned; support overall education committee structure and day-to-day operations
Develop and oversee implementation of education marketing and communications strategies and products
Continuously identify opportunity for innovation in education initiatives; develop business plans and participate in the implementation of improvements and new projects
Participate in Education & Meetings management team and collaborate to develop and deliver business unit strategies and operations
Communicate and demonstrate organization’s mission, vision, and values, and strategic direction.
Responsible for initiating, developing, communicating, directing, and implementing specific proposals, programs, policies, and procedures.
Ensure the organization’s objectives and business strategies are translated into the department’s operational plans.
Develop and manage department’s budget and budget processes.

Prepare and maintain goals, objectives, and strategies for overall education program; share accountability for success of Business Unit goals and strategic issues
Supervise, train, and develop direct and indirect staff reports with accountability for all products
Maintain the Foundation’s ACCME accreditation; monitor policies and procedures to ensure activities are developed, implemented, and evaluated in accordance with ACCME guidelines
Develop education activities using sound instructional design, adult learning principles, and successful management of physician volunteer subject matter experts
Work with staff and volunteer committee members to identify performance gaps and underlying education needs, and develop appropriate activities to address the identified learning needs of members
Coordinate Education Steering Committee and Education committee(s) activities as outlined in the AAO-HSN/F “Member Committee Handbook”
Oversee staff support and communication to Education Steering Committee (ESC) and its component committees including support for the committee appointment process, meetings, conference calls, web conferences, and reports
Oversee Senior Manager, Education positions in the design and coordination of a variety of education products, including implementation of a formal Online Education strategy, vendor management, content development, and continuing education compliance
Oversee Education Program Manager as marketing/content contributor representative and ensure collaboration within business unit and successful marketing and communication of education program and activities.
Oversee education staff management of education vendors and outsourced work; participate in vendor search, review, contract negotiation, and performance management
Prepare the ACCME annual report and oversee the quadrennial ACCME reaccreditation process
Manage documentation requirements for the overall education program and individual activities; oversee management of continuing education records and annual transcripts
Provide consultation on best practices and compliance to all staff involved with education activities
Participate in development of commercial support grant proposals, review agreements, monitor supported activity content and promotional materials, and maintain documentation for proper finance and accounting
Utilize survey and evaluation data to monitor success of the association’s programming to inform future activities; report metrics to the Senior Director, Global Education, Meetings, and Strategic Partnerships in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the association’s initiatives
Work directly with committee volunteers and vendors to administer and coordinate all aspects of the assigned program/projects, including program planning and development, project management, budget development and management, marketing, customer service and satisfaction, and evaluation data
May participate on an internal team, either through formal assignment, or on an ad hoc basis
Consistently demonstrate courteous, ethical, cooperative, accountable, and helpful behavior to all contacts, internal and external
