The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for a Manager for its Regulatory and Technical Affairs division. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for providing technical expertise and support for ACC’s advocacy related to a range of regulatory priorities, including environmental media regulation (such as the Clean Water Act and federal waste regulation), and provides staff support for subgroups of the member Committees supported by the Department, and manages specific advocacy issues as assigned, as well as conducts related research, and provides written and oral communications products, and reports directly to the Vice President, Regulatory & Technical Affairs.
Other key duties and responsibilities of the position include staffing and supporting specific regulatory issues as assigned; developing working relationships with federal and state agency personnel as appropriate; monitoring, analyzing and tracking emerging issues, developments and trends on related policy issues; providing technical and regulatory support across the Regulatory & Technical Affairs Department, including responsibility for editing weekly newsletter(s); providing administrative support to ACC staff with issue responsibility across the Department, on an as-needed basis as back-up to the Coordinator and Executive Assistant.
Required qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years relevant experience in a technical, scientific, legal or policy field; strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to give both internal and external presentations; the ability to cultivate and manage relationships with ACC member company representatives and ACC staff., as well as work independently on a variety of matters simultaneously; and demonstrated ability to understanding regulatory/legislative issues and their possible impact on the business of chemistry.
