The UCSD Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC), has been federally funded continuously since 1985. The Center follows research participants with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease, or a related disorder.
The incumbent will provide assistance to the clinical staff and study coordinators for multiple research studies looking at cognitive and neurological issues related to aging. In addition the incumbent will have an opportunity to assist the PI/neurologist in the clinical setting. Responsibilities include participation in study subject recruitment activities such as developing screening scripts, conducting telephone interviews, presenting study-related information and responding to questions; scheduling clinic visits and exams and helping with patient appointments; transcribing study data, completing case report forms (paper documents and electronic data capture) and medical record management, sending appointment reminder letters to study subjects, preparing, organizing and filing study related material in regulatory binders; preparing and participating in community outreach activities for the purposes of recruitment and retention. Additional activities include assisting with clinical support and regulatory document management clinical interviews and cognitive testing.
Demonstrated experience working with research and clinical trials.
Experience working with elderly patients; with clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and various dementias.
Demonstrated experience working with Down Syndrome patients and study subjects.
Experience administering assessment tests and questionnaires as required by protocol.
Proven experience conducting interviews of a sensitive nature with specific attention to confidentiality issues; warm demeanor, and excellent communication.
Demonstrated experience working with medical charts and obtaining data from medical records.
Strong computer skills and proficiency in Windows, Mac OS, MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Google shared calendar and a variety of web-based programs. Experience using SPSS and other database design tools.
Familiarity with FDA regulations for clinical trials as well as Good Clinical Practices; familiarity with new project preparation and experience assisting with the new project submission for IRB approval.
TB test is required.
Must be able to travel to multiple locations & work weekends and evenings as needed.
