Under supervision, the employee will recruit and retain research participants for studies on the effects of HIV infection and other co-factors. Duties will include: Identifying individuals who are interested in and eligible to participate in research studies; Conducting, assessing, and documenting informed consent; Interviewing subjects and recording research data; Developing networks to promote subject referral with health care providers, case managers, substance abuse recovery counselors, health outreach workers, peer advocates, and service providers; Making presentations to the community on the outcomes of research studies and the opportunities to become involved in research studies; Making presentations to the community regarding the search for HIV positive people willing to sign up and designate themselves as organ donors for research; Initiating and maintaining regular, and supportive contact with study participants to promote their continued involvement in a study; Representing the research center and study investigators in San Diego's HIV, HCV, and substance recovery communities.
Graduation from high school or a GED and one (1) year of experience in a health or social service field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned.
Basic knowledge of HIV and hepatitis C disease and the associated social, health and human service issues.
Computer proficiency, including word processing and database applications. Ability to perform limited data entry.
Demonstrated ability to complete client needs assessment and make appropriate referrals.
Cultural competency working with diverse populations including ethnic and cultural minorities, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer people living with HIV or hepatitis C, people with current or past alcohol and other drug abuse, and people recovering from substance abuse.
Demonstrated experience working with people with mental health diagnoses.
Proven ability to communicate complex ideas and topics using simple, easy to understand, language. Develop written content for education and advertising.
Ability to discuss organ donation for research purposes, familiarity with end of life issues such as hospice.
Knowledge to make participant referrals for assistance with their advanced directives.
Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing to perform customer service and all duties and activities in English & Spanish.
Must be willing to work with people infected with the HIV, HCV, AIDS, Hepatitis C, and receiving hospice care.
Must be available to work overtime, including evenings and weekends.
Must have driver's license and car insurance. Must have access to transportation reliably and efficiently.
