Collaborate and integrate the SBDC with the main academic programs of the School of Business, Professional and Continuing Education, School of Engineering and School of Peace Studies and the university as a whole. Hire, train, supervise and evaluate center staff and coordinate work of assigned staff; supervise business consulting. Assist with special projects and activities, as needed, to enhance the reputation of the School of Business.
Client Management Oversee the intake, relationship management, services, and success for clients and their business development. Clients include aspiring and current small business owners in the regional area, as well as aspiring student entrepreneurs. Ensure the center reflects the University's commitment to diversity and provide services to diverse and underserved clients. Develop and implement competitive marketing and recruitment strategies to promote the SBDC and its services to small businesses. Work closely with career services to match clients' employment and projects needs with student interns.
Consulting and Coordination of Client Services Provide in-depth one-on-one consulting to small business owners and managers. Implement project objectives and activities. Recruit business advisors for client consulting sessions and increase the advisor network of the center. Coordinate with faculty and staff, alumni, current students, partners and friends of the University to offer robust consulting sessions for clients. Oversee the scheduling and coordination of matching advisors with clients. Establish systems to collect and monitor small business activities, client services, and budget expenditures.
Training Services and Events Manage event planning for SBDC training workshops and learning sessions and large-scale events and opportunities to promote the SBDC's services to the business community and meet the specific needs of the small business sector. Coordinate with University departments to collaborate on events and opportunities to enhance the University's connection with the business and entrepreneurship community.
Center Development and Fundraising Actively search for grants and develop grant proposals to increase center budget; monitor award compliance. Secure additional funds through banks, corporations, organizations, and individual donors. Coordination with SBDC Network Work closely with the regional SBDC network to enhance resources and services and abide by all SBDC guidelines. Create SBDC budget, approve expenditures, and ensure reimbursements and overall compliance with the budget. Abide by SBDC network marketing standards.
Reporting Oversee the reporting of the center performance, grant proposals, and other program applications as requested and maintained by the SBDC guidelines.
Qualifications: This is a management position within the School of Business and requires significant prior experience and a track record with the varied responsibilities of the position listed above. The position requires a customer-focused personality, high energy, and ability to interact with clients, faculty and staff, alumni, and the business community.
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in business or closely related field. Experience: 5 years of experience in business management, small business development, international trade, consultant experience or economic development.
Education: graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree preferred. Experience: 8 years of experience in business management, small business development, international trade, consultant experience or economic development. Bilingual.
Knowledge of and experience with: Operations, services and activities of a Small Business Development Center program. General business practices, financing, and financial analysis Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations including pertinent provisions of the laws affecting small businesses in California and international trade regulations Contract negotiation and management principles and practices Communications and marketing Project and event management Interacting with the professional business community Client management Presenting materials and public speaking. Using judgment to respond appropriately to inquiries Writing reports Computers and software (including MS Word, Access or other databases, Internet, Web, etc.) Modern office practices, systems and procedures Multi-line telephones Spreadsheets, budgeting procedures
