This is an expert level coding position that codes and abstracts both inpatient and outpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement and research and completes charge capture, as applicable. Assists coding and hospital staff with coding and billing related follow up, issues and questions. Assist manager/director with coding education, training, audits, SMART reviews and/or CHA data submission.
Minimum Education Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required; Associate Degree preferred Minimum of successful completion of coding certificate program Demonstrate advanced technical coding competency in coding with ICD-10 , CPT-4 and HCPCS Advance knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology and coding systems (i.e. 3M) Knowledge of Coding Clinic Guidelines, and Nosology.
Minimum Experience Requirements
3 years inpatient and/or outpatient coding experience in an acute care setting Must demonstrate competency of inpatient and observation coding guidelines as well as other outpatient coding guidelines Advance knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and troubleshooting computer problems Prefer charge capture experience
Current AHIMA credentials (i.e. RHIA, RHIT, CCS) or AAPC credential (CPC) required

Performs quality reviews (i.e. SMART, audits, etc) in a timely manner and effectively communicates feedback tostakeholders.*
Accurately codes and abstracts both inpatient and outpatient accounts into the designated record system, completescharge capture, as applicable, and creates APC or DRG group assignments while adhering to coding guidelines,regulations and compliance plan.*
Acts as liaison between patient financial services, charge audit and clinical departments on coding issues.*
Collaborates with corporate and facility on the development of coding guidelines and policies and procedures.*
Facilitates and/or assists with coding training and education to promote accurate coding and reimbursement practicesaccording to coding guidelines, regulatory requirements and Centura Health's coding compliance plan.*
May assist manager and/or director with personnel management.*
