Unity College is a private, liberal arts, sustainability science-based institution with an environmental focus. The Controller is a middle management position who is the lead accountant in charge of overseeing the day to day operations of the College while ensuring that all policies, procedures, controls and reporting regulations are complied with at all times. The Controller works with the Chief Business Officer (CBO) and other constituents in support of the College's mission and strategic plan and is an active participant of leadership in abundance. Specific duties include (but are not all inclusive):
Compiles, analyzes, and reconciles financial information, including preparation of journal entries and financial statements.
Assists in managing the annual audit process including acting as the primary liaison to the external audit team while they are on campus.
Manages the monthly, quarterly and annual closing processes.
Oversees the annual 990 and 990T preparation process.
Manages, forecasts and reconciles cash and investment accounts.
Manages Grant revenues and expenses.
Oversees monthly budget reporting, including budget to actual variance analysis.
Assists with the annual budget development process.
Assists with insurance renewals and requests.
Assists CBO with ratio analysis and special projects.
Assists CBO with developing and implementing policies, procedures and internal controls.
Leads assigned personnel on a daily basis, providing support and direction as needed.
The successful candidate will have a Master's degree, however CPA certification and/or work experience will be considered in lieu of the Master's degree. Undergraduate degree must be in Accounting or Finance or work experience must show competencies in these areas. 3 to 5 years financial reporting experience. Must have strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, staff, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to apply mathematical operations such as basic math and algebraic equations. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of Dynamics GP and Management Reporter a plus.
This position is a full-time, calendar year, administrative position. Primarily working day shift with occasional weekend or extended hours. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling responsibilities and meeting the college's needs.
