Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Department of Medicine at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Reports to Clinical Nursing Coordinator.
The Licensed Practical Nurse, in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team, and under the direction of the registered nurse, provides focused, episodic care to RWJMG patients. This care encompasses health promotion, health maintenance, or management of health-related problems that is delivered in face-to-face or telephone encounters. Additional responsibilities include: delegation, direction, and supervision of the activities of RWJMG unlicensed assistive personnel to meet the needs of RWJMG patients.
Provides and documents nursing care within the scope of practice for a specific RWJMS patient, group, or population in face-to-face and telephone encounters.
Provides input to the plan of care by communicating information pertinent to the patient's status to the registered nurse and other members of the healthcare team as appropriate and in a timely manner.
Engages in ongoing performance improvement activities to enhance the quality and effectiveness of one's clinical and professional nursing practice, and that of the RWJMG organizational system.
Engages in continuing education to attain knowledge and competency that reflects the current state of ambulatory care nursing practice and will enable the Licensed Practical Nurse to contribute to the fulfillment of the RWJMG mission as it relates to the delivery of quality healthcare.
Optimizes use of time by efficiently using tools, resources, systems, and prioritization in consultation with the registered nurse to facilitate patient access and flow for effective and efficient RWJMG clinical operations.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Possession of a valid registration as a Licensed Practical Nurse,with Licensure in the State of New Jersey
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ability to function in a team environment
Basic word processing and computer skills
At least six (6) months of clinical nursing experience
At least six (6) months of phone triage experience
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Physical Demands: Position requires standing to 2/3 of the time, walking to 2/3 of the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time, use of the hands to finger, handle or feel to 2/3 of the time, reach with hands and arms over 1/3 of the time, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl under 1/3 of the time, talk or hear over 2/3 of the time. Position requires lifting 1/3 of the time up to 10 pounds, and under 1/3 of the time up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to blood borne pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure (less than 1/3 of the time) to hazardous waste.
