Within the Patient Financial Services Department, the Patient Access Specialist provides regional on-site PFS support to patients and the clinical departments. They assist with all insurance-related inquiries and requests for new patients, as well as those who decide to continue treatment with MSKCC.
Registration/Benefits Verification support: Provides registration team support by verifying insurance information and discussing insurance benefits and documentation required for visit with patients. Registers patients in person that are unable to complete pre-registration over the phone.
Pre-Certification/Pre-Determination: Contacts insurance companies to pre-certify all scheduled services that require an authorization to secure reimbursement.
Follow-up: Completes all necessary follow-up on accounts pending an authorization.
Discusses financial options with patients (via telephone or in person) who have restrictive insurance and are considering treatment/further treatment at MSKCC. Informs clinical staff of patient’s status.
Completes adhoc projects as assigned.
Minimum of 3-5 years of health care experience
A Bachelor's Degree is preferred
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
Intermediate knowledge of mainframe or personal computer systems
Proficient using MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Access)
Basic knowledge of medical terminology
