Department Summary University Advancement is responsible for strategically positioning the UO with its various constituents and securing resources to further its aims. The division consists of approximately 200 employees primarily working out of Eugene, with offices in Portland and Bend. Departments within University Advancement include: Advancement/UO Alumni Association; Development; Stewardship and Public Events; Advancement Operations; Federal Affairs; and State and Community Affairs.
Advancement Operations provides essential services that build a strong foundation from which units within University Advancement promote the university’s priorities and operate within a framework of efficient business practices. Programs within the division of Advancement Operations include: Prospect Management and Analytics, Financial Services, Strategic Talent and Engagement Team, Facilities and Office Operations, and IT Services.
Position Summary This position serves a crucial function in the area of talent management, serving a University Advancement community of 150+ employees across campus. This individual will be responsible for data collection, analysis, and action items in the areas of employee relations and recruitment. He/she will be responsible for the oversight. This position will revolve around three primary responsibilities: the proactive recruitment of the next generation of advancement employees; the tracking and analysis of employee hiring, promotions, and performance (utilizing institution databases and advancement-specific tools); and the anticipation of and provision for employee needs in the areas of onboarding, personal leave, work environment, and supervision.
The Program Manager reports to the Director of Talent Management and is responsible for oversight, implementation and assessment of recruitment, performance management, and employee support programs within University Advancement. The program manager will be expected to have a high level of independence and autonomy. As the primary force in project implementation he/she will be expected to independently communicate and market an employer brand to potential employees, build and communicate long-term initiatives to leadership and the broader team, track progress-to-date across multiple projects, and lead strategy sessions and meetings. This position is also expected to identify and build creative solutions for new needs across the advancement team.
Minimum Requirements • Bachelor’s Degree OR 5 years of equivalent professional experience in recruiting or employee relations. • 1 year of recruiting or employee relations experience in a complex and diverse organization.
Professional Competencies • Independence and creativity in project management and implementation. • Ability to navigate and extract key data from central databases as well as manual reports. • Ability to evaluate and provide feedback to candidates in active and future searches. • Strong interpersonal and communications skills with persons in diverse work groups and with differing skill levels. • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, with an acute attention to detail. • Independent judgment, and ability to effectively interact with a wide range of internal and external audiences. • Familiarity with databases, project management software, and Microsoft Excel and Access. • Ability to communicate and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures. • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. • Commitment to, and experience with, promoting and enhancing diversity and equity.
Preferred Qualifications • Five years of experience in human resources or a related field at a complex, large institution. • Experience in higher education advancement or a large non-profit fundraising environment. • Experience in data visualization and the creation of reports, dashboards, and KPIs for leadership audiences.
